Erratic blood sugars are making me feel rubbish....all self inflicted! Going for a walk to see if it helps!

How long have you been type 1 for. And boy do I know that one .

I'm 1 year behind you, nearly 33 years next month. And boy haven't things changed.

We should give ourselves a pat on the back after all these years,it hasn't all been plain sailing but thankfully things have improved.

I'm at 30 years and still going strong! Only stopped counting in exchanges last year....

im only diagnosed 4 or 5 yrs ago , not really coming to terms with it all yet ,I forget already ,I seem to be suffering some short term memory loss sometimes but every type 1 person I know seems to be doing very well compared to some of us type 2,s

Oh don't worry there's been plenty of ups and downs over the years and sometimes I still ignore the diabetes and eat a jumbo pack of chocolate buttons (yum) but still in one piece...so far ....touch wood!

As long as you carb count you can pretty much eat whatever you want. Things have changed a lot since I was diagnosed, when I was told I'll never be able to eat chocolate again (pretty devastating to hear that as a young child). Don't go mad tho.....

Lucie, I was diagnosed 2 weeks before my 10th birthday. It is actually a very strange feeling being able to eat chocolate, without being told your cheating. And no it hasn't been plain sailing, but you keep plodding on, and you try to not let it get on top of you. Dolly day are you on MDI or pump??

32 years here and still plodding along.

Put today behind you Dolly and move forward tomorrow

Been there as well, fancy a snack so more insulin then my sugars dip in the evening. I am still trying so hard to adjust my carb / insulin ratio. Tomorrow trying 1:15

Julie I was diagnosed at 8 and I agree it's odd to now know that no food is forbidden. Also makes me want it less. I've hardly touched chocolate since going on the pump. I've also found that now I don't HAVE to eat carbs I've been having a few low carb days, just because I can!

I still don't eat sweets etc, not because I can't, but I've had so many years going without them, I just don't want them, had my kids going mum, you can have some birthday cake as you can count for it. But I don't as it just dosen't interest me. I've been low carbing for a little while and feel a lot better as you've got to eat x,y,z got very boring and I couldn't cope as when diagnosed I used to eat every second day, when diagnosed each day lead into another.

Haven't got a pump I'm on levermir am and pm and novo rapid x 3+

I am approaching 30 We always carb counted (must have been my Mum as it was the whole exchange thing which was 10g of carb so we just called it 10g of carb rather than 1 exchange and my Mum got me on MDI really early on so unusually I think I have been carb counting for ages). Chocolate - I tend to have little bits when I know that I am doing some exercise or my sugar is low enough that it won't massively effect it (as a kid I used to get mini bars to eat before PE - that made me happy) - I avoid bolusing in-between meals now as it is just too much faff to avoid going too high or too low looking at insulin onboard……just lazy and can't be bothered, also routine does seem to help diabetes rather a lot when on MDI!! I too no longer crave sweet things, cake - not fussed if I want a chocolate fix it is just something little or a mouthful and I'm fine with that now - like the low sugar chocs from hotel chocolate and you can spread them throughout the day. Someone said that mikado chocolate sticks are fairly low in carbs so that might keep me happy too I am hoping to go on a pump soon and learn all about that!
