Error in the table in Article Prediabetes (Borderline Diabetes)

Article Prediabetes (Borderline Diabetes) http://www.diabetes.co.uk/pre-diabetes.html is a correctly written value of glycated hemoglobin in units of mmol / mol, according to the latest revision of the methodology IFCC, but in the table below are the 3rd row values marked units used for blood glucose values mmol / l and not for HbA1c. The right to be there mmol / mol and should there be a written of methodology IFCC, as well as the line no. 4 are HbA1c and you are following the methodology DCCT expressed in % correct. And after reading the article, people who have prediabetes may not be able to give advice that HbA1c levels are still good.

HbA1c [DCCT %]=HbA1c [IFCC%]x0,9148+2,125

HbA1c [IFCC%]=(HbA1c [DCCT %] - 2,125) / 0,9148

HbA1c [IFCC mmol/mol] = HbA1c[IFCC%]*10

Hello. Lots of numbers etc which don't really mean that much to me. I have been recently told that I have pre diabetes and just to follow lifestyle changes. When I asked at my Practise I was told a figure of 42. I have ben busy downloading various advice and will go for a re-check. My next blood test will be in a year which seems too long. To be truthful I am quite stressed and blood pressure now significantly increased. Anything positive to tell me please!!!! I eat healthily and a little red wine and have started a few cubes of dark chocolate at night. Healthy BMI and low cholesterol and exercise regularly.. I am 65 and it seems another problem along the way to old age. Should I not eat cake,pastry, chips etc and would a monitor from the Chemist help in any way? You appear very knowledgeable and perhaps others would also give advice. Thanks.

No worries! I will have a bash at answering you.

If your test result of 42 was from an HbA1c test, then it gives you a score based on you average blood glucose (BG) level over the last 2-3 months. 42 is not a diabetic result but it shows that your BG is going higher than it would in a person with normal BG levels (hence the pre-diabetes label).

I totally agree that a year til your next test is far too long. Getting a meter is a good idea, but be careful of price - buying the strips can get expensive unless you buy the right brand.

How are you doing gathering diet info? Have you decided on a plan? Have you taken on board that you need to cut down on bread, potatoes, rice and pasta, as well as sugar?

The good news is that while the standard idea of a healthy diet may not work for you any longer, there is some seriously fantastic food out there, and you will probably end up with much better nutrition than if carbs make up the major part of your diet.

Keep popping in and reading the forum - you'll find lots of useful info and helpful people around here.
