I agree that in the select group of his session that was probably ok, but this video will travel around the globe now and be seen by others. It may well appear on FB. I have edited my posting above to give my explanation, having myself had experience of that 'trust me' being flung back in my face. Thank you for sharing the original post and starting this discussion, It will not be wasted.
Yes, I agree there are some who need tick boxes and do not need the science, but I have to ask are these people who would eat to meter and test themselves? Would these people go back to their GP or DCN or attend DESMOND or DAPHNE or XPERT, and stand up to the negativity given by our HCP's and would they go against Doctors advice based on this video experience?I'll preface my post by saying I haven't yet had the time to watch either video, so can't give any personal view of the content or delivery style.
With reference to your label of a "Trust me. I'm a Doctor" delivery style; how many people to we encounter on here who just want to be told what to do? They have a distinct lack of enthusiasm to do their own detailed research or digging.
I'm not making any value judgements on anyone; more suggesting that one style doesn't suit everyone. Some people are more keen than others to embark upon their own voyages of discovery and others just want a list and a few tick boxes to follow.
I am hoping that this will be of help to people going through exactly what you describe. It's only been about 8 months since I was told I'm prediabetic, not even diabetic, and I can still remember how devastated I felt, total shock and disbelief, that I was actually - facing illness. Can't be true; Unheard of in my family - we're a healthy bunch. Whilst going through the denial, anger, despair, acceptance process, I was not doing anything like "thinking". All I wanted was to be 'told' what to do, what to eat, how much, and how often - all laid out for me. I think I was kind of mentally gobsmacked and stultified. And I don't think I was alone in wanting that kind of hand-holding. Take a look at the 'sticky' bits at the start of this sub-section; daisy1's intro package, and the 10-week low carb course. All essential early support measures, in my view.
It is only now, months later, whilst continuing to learn, that I feel more confident and have started to question more the stuff I read, evidence behind it and how valid the comments made are, as best I can within my limited abilities.
