I know it sounds crazy, but I am really looking forward to the appointment next Friday (the 25th). I hope to get most of my questions/concerns answered. I guess I feel now that I have this diagnosis, I can do something about it and get the proper care. Perhaps I will even start to feel better!

I've made a rather long list of concerns/questions to take with me, in a notebook in which I plan to jot everything down. I am so glad I found this forum so at least I can go to the appointment somewhat informed already. The receptionist said my appointment would be 50 minutes long. Is that standard? Seems a long time. What exactly do they do/tell you at this first appointment? I know I am going to be prescribed Metformin, and the GP said perhaps statins. I really don't know much about statins, but I read one of the side affects is increased risk of diabetes - so why put a diabetic on statins? Also, is there anything in particular I should ask at this appointment that I perhaps didn't think of?

I've underlined my questions. Any and all advice is much appreciated!

Take control of your session , get all your questions answered, hope you come away with all the answers you need, if they can't be answered ask for some clarity and for someone to get back you.....

Great you have made a list and 50 mins sounds great....it is your time ....

I take metformin and stains , they come as a package in some cases, you can discuss what medication will be best for you to try though....

Great you hear from you .....good look with your session ......Kat x

Can't add much more than what Kat has said, if your concerned about going on statins then this is an ideal opportunity to say so in your appointment.

Hope you come away with 50 answers Fallgal

Thanks to both of you.

My first appointment was about an hour. We had a long discussion, she checked feet, weight, took bloods for the tests that hadn't been done, gave me flu shot etc. She also set me targets for HbA1c in the 60s from 90s and provided me with printouts of all the blood tests I had had taken (had to ask for these). However, at the time I wasn't informed enough about the condition to ask the questions I should have so I think you will have a really good sessions

Thanks, Andrew. I am curious about the other blood tests. I had tests for BG, iron level, cholesterol and thyroid. What other tests might they want? It took 4 times at the phlebotomist to get the blood for the aforementioned tests.

i had liver, kidney function tests as well
