There are plenty of type 1 and 2 diabetics running marathons, iron mans, and other endurance races that can last for 10+ hours.
While the short term blood sugar rise caused by exercise may be off-putting , I can assure you that in most everyone's case the long term-effects are tremendously beneficial.
As a type 1 diabetic, I occasionally experience blood sugar rises from exercise that can reach as high as 10 mmol/l (although that is extremely rare). I know that my body releases additional glucose into my blood during exercise to be used as energy. After I stop my workout there is a slightly delayed response in my body "Shutting off" that release of glucose. However, my muscles absorb that extra glucose very quickly and my levels return to normal within an hour.
Short answer- don't take this as an opportunity to shy away from exercise.
