Good afternoon everyone - i am a newly diagnosed T2 and am just bursting at the seams with questions!

Just wanted to know, do expired Test Strips really give false readings or is it just a precaution. Random I know but I want to know if this will really throw off any readings?

take them back to the chemist if they are expired or very close to it, you normally get at least 6-12 months on them. a lot of meters won't accept expired strips when you try to use them. you have to change the date on your meter, if you run out and find an old container somewhere

Thanks - I got given a meter for free and it has a pack of expired strips with it - wasn't sure if they really 'expire' or if its just to be on the safe side.

meters and strip do have an error rate, a cap left off in the bathroom will kill them more than a month out of date. If you are like me, the first container is gone in a couple of days, so it may not be much of an issue

I got some from e bay and they were a month out of date (grrrr) so I asked the pharmacist and she said that they were told to say don't use them but they would be ok.

Think these ones are over a year out of date - my guess is they wouldn't be that accurate. Will wait until I get my script to go and get some more and then start the testing again. I get my A1c results on Friday so won't stress too much until then x

This is all so helpful, thank you so much!
