eye problem

To be honest, the best person to talk to is going to be the Ophthalmologist. It's understandable to have concerns and it's probably no consolation to mention that my type II father had lots of laser treatment and at 88 his eye problems now are age related and NOT diabetes related (diagnosed at least 30 years ago).
If you were asking for advise I would only suggest trying to contact the ophthalmologist. I have recently had a cataract done and I was able to speak to somebody just by initially contacting the secretary. I have to say that I was impressed with the NHS people here in High Wycombe, very pleased.

I read your Eye Doctors report and you appear to have what is a common problem that we diabetics experience and is really nothing to get yourself overly worried about. It would seem that your diabetes has resulted in a slight leakage in the blood vessels of your retina in both of your eyes which is something that's easily treatable using a lazer.
The procedure is quite straight forward and you probably won't feel a thing whilst it takes place, your only sensation being the tiny flashes of light that are used to seal up the leaking blood vessels within the retina. of your eye(s).
Sometime they decide to do each eye on different days, but it's more likely as things aren't so bad, that they will do both your eyes at the one sitting, and after it's all over (which is usually well within a fraction of a hour) you'll wonder why you were ever so worried in the first instant.

Hi Annieok I hope your appointment goes well with your ophthalmologist. I would do as much research as you can on line then make a list of questions to ask. I have been treated for neovascular glaucoma (NVG) since January. The treatment I have received has been good. I have had numerous laser treatments and tomorrow I'm having another injection into my eye. I have also had an operation, with another one coming up. The one (huge) complaint I have with the hospital I attend is the lack of communication. I only found out that I'm having another op when I received a letter saying I have a pre-op appointment next week! Hopefully I will find out during an appointment 2 days after my pre-op.


Don't be put off by my tale. NVG is quite rare (so I'm told) and my r eye has not responded to any treatment. My l eye has responded well.

thanks Trachet. I met the consultant this morning and he confirmed there is damage to both eyes but that it's not sufficient to require laser treatment at the moment. I'm to go back in 3 months to see how it is going. As I have been only recently diagnosed 7 weeks ago, he's keen for me to have a chance to get my blood sugar more stable and to get my blood pressure down. The damage is to my central vision but he didn't really explain anything further. So huge relief and quite a funny walk back to the train station from the hospital in Halifax with numbed up eyes and dilated pupils.

That sounds really positive. I had my injection this morning. Had them in both eyes in the end. It's a bit uncomfortable, feels like I've got grit in my eyes. Oh well I get a bit of a rest from hospital until my 2 appointments next week! Hope they give me a break next month around my birthday!
