I enquired at my pharmacy a few weeks ago about an exemption form in order to get free diabetes test strips. As I want to change my blood glucose meter. Which means changing to different strips. The pharmacist told me I have to ask for a form signed by the doctor to get an exemption certificate. But it has to be signed by the doctor. Then sent off.
I used e-consult to request exemption form FP92A for free diabetes supplies. Mainly test strips.

I get a e-consult message to say you can collect the form from reception. I phones up and speaks to a lady. I ask 'has the form been signed by the doctor?' In turn she states I've been sent a message by the e-consult team to say I can collect if from reception. I says but 'has it been signed by the doctor?' reply comes 'you will have to phone reception'. I asks 'can you put me through to reception or give me the extention number please?' She states 'you'll have to phone reception I can't put you through I'm sorry' So I hangs up the phone after waiting 3rd in the queue!
I phone again to be told I'm 8 in the queue!
So I sends an email. Then the phone rings. The doctors. I get told I can collect the form from reception. I say has the form been signed by the doctor as it has to be physically signed by the doctor'. I get told you can collect it and take it away and fill it in and bring it back to us' (I live 2 miles from the surgery. I have mobility issues. So not exactly as if it's a hop skip and a jump away from me.) I say 'So I have to make 2 journeys for 1 form! I say what about if I fill in the form at reception and leave it with you for the doctor to sign it. Reply 'yes you can fill it in here and we can send it off for you' I state 'Thank you that would be most appreciated'.
All it would have taken would have been 1 conversation with 1 person to state 'No the form has not been signed by the doctor but if you come in fill the form in and we'll get it signed by the doctor and sent off!' that is the complete sentence I was looking for. Was that difficult? Instead of waiting an age in a telelphone queue for a simple yes or no answer!
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!
In an age where we have use of email, telephone, post, and all it takes is a little bit of common sense to reply with 'yes or no' or a sentence. But it's all about 'it's not my job it's there job' 'it's not there job that's my job'....'I'm not going to help I'll just be awkward instead! I'll pass you from pillar to post in the hope you hang up and go away!

be very careful how you speak to them on the phone, as it is so easy for them to hang up on you and then accuse you of being abusive,
especially when you disagree with their processes
