Hi, I was diagnosed type 2 around 2007. I wondered if anyone has experienced a similar problem with their eyes after surgery. About 18 months ago in 2014 I had surgery to my right eye which consisted of epiretinal peel, vitrectomy and cataract.

There is now distortion in the right eye which was not there before. When I look at a vertical line such as a lamppost, it has a pregnant bump in the middle, which means I can't use this eye on it's own and I can't see accurately enough at close range to solder tiny components with my hobby of electronics. The day before the surgery I could do this, the day after I couldn't and haven't been able to since. The specialist told me there is nothing that can be done, but I was not told of anything like this happening before the surgery.

A friend of mine had similar done and he was told this often happens after cataract surgery, I would not have had the surgery done if I had known this beforehand. Apparently it is fluid behind the lens or something.

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

You need to go to the eye A&E as a matter of urgency what you are describing is not normal.
 
I had cataracts removed in both eyes last year haven't had any problems
 
I have an appointment at the eye hospital in Hull next week for laser treatment, I have been told it is for a "lens polish" whatever that is. but all the consultants tell me nothing can be done for the distortion, I am beginning to wonder if this is because I am an NHS patient?
I will want to know just what the procedure and risks involved before I let them touch my eyes again.
 
Just posted a new thread cataract operation? Because a bit apprehensive then saw this question when browsing. Given me a bit to worry about but glad to hear some positive responses.
 
I have had a cataract removed from my right eye 5 years ago, it did improve my vision for a while but quickly deteriorated again. But I do also have retinopathy and macular oedema as well. Wavy lines can be an indication of macular oedema or macular degeneration so I would certainly ask to see your consultant again. There is also a procedure after a catact operation, where they laser a hole through the membrane that has enveloped the new lens. This made a big improvement in mine , and made the cataract removal worthwhile. Hope you get sorted.

Oh, now I've got the jitters again about my upcoming cataract surgery.

Hi Rosie, I had posted a question thread on type2 forum called cataract operation? Just to say I have had some positive and encouraging replies. So I am not so worried now. Hope helpful
 
I have had the same (vitrectomy and then cataract 2 years later). Before the cataract was removed I could read with that eye, since removal I have a similar distortion (it looks like people's heads have dropped on one side). I was told that it is because the surface of my retina was pitted/not smooth (they took photos to show me) but the cataract kind of filled in the pitted parts. When it was removed the problem became apparent. Not a lot they can do apparently. Luke you, if I'd have known I'd have left the cataract well alone until it hit really bad
 
Had laser treatment today and the Doctor who did it told me more then the specialist ever did. She said I need a lens repositioning. This seems to suggest the lens was not positioned correctly when it was put in.
