Hi guys. I am new here and have already had some amazing answers to my first thread. As some of you may be aware I am trying to bring my BG down to below 7 for a pre employment medical on Wednesday this week. I have bought a BG monitor and with the use of very low carbs and brisk walking at teatime I have succeeded in getting it down to between 5.8 - 6.8 over a three day period. However, the 6.8 was this morning after a through noght fast period of about 10 hours. I am a bit confused as to the higher reading after a fast period.

Do I take it that a fasting period will actually give me a higher reading?

My medical is at 3.15pm tomorrow. I have to produce a fasting sample at this time. How should I plan this to keep it down? I am worried that if I fast it will actually go up.

This is caused by the 'Dawn Phenomenon' Stu. It's because you had not eaten for 10 hours that this happens.

Have a protein/fat based snack in the evening before you go to bed ,this can help keep the DP from rising too much in the morning.Read the link and it will explain it.
