Not really knowing what's going on inside my Endocrine system!!!
Hi

felt I needed to have a mini rant before the clock strikes midnight tomorrow.

A few times, this year, I asked for the results of my fasting C-peptide which was done in March. Firstly the medics had difficulty locating the result and then finally consultant no. 2 (out of the 3 different ones I've seen so far this year) confirmed simply it was 'normal' in May.

I found out today it was 0.46 against a range of 0.36 - 1.16 (edited as I put the wrong figs).

So closer to the lower end of the range.

But because I was still in range , instead of doing the anti-GAD test they went off down the MODY route (because they couldn't get past that both my parents are T2 and this has a strong hereditory disposition even though they repeatedly told me I was an unusual case as I didn't fit the standard T2 criteria).

Months past and I became iller and iller until I finally asked for the anti-GAD last month, which came back positive (after learning about the experiences of the lovely LADA / Type 1.5 types here).

Now out of curiousity more than anything I'm trying get a hold of my anti-GAD test result (I like numbers) and the DN at the hospital couldn't locate it

Rant now finished.

A Happy Hogmanay to everyone here. Thank you so much for your continued support and guidance.

Hey Sanober!

It drives you mad doesn't it? I never did get the actual GAD results - just that they were positive. I found out I was Type 1 by receiving a letter from my consultant making my next appointment on which he had scrawled at the bottom ' p.s. your GAD results were positive, so LADA' - I kid you not  I was just so relieved to get proper treatment and a diagnosis I didn't even complain - so unlike me

Put it behind you! Onwards and downwards for your BG with the correct treatment!

Have a great New Year!

 No way! Diagnosed by a P.S

I can't believe how many adults are mis-diagnosed as T2 when they are not. Such a dangerous road for doctors as a T1 could go into DKA and die just thinking they are ill and not knowing the symptoms. Blood tests and monitoring should be done straight away. I suppose adults tend to have a long honeymoon period which children generally don't have but the risks are still there.

According to the numbers you've posted, you are below the lab range at .36 for your C-Peptide. So this is far from normal. I had the opposite problem - the Endo wanted to put me on insulin without checking my insulin levels or do a C-Peptide. The insulin levels were 16.9 on a 0-10 scale and my C-Peptide was 9 on a 1.1 to 4.4 scale. Adding insulin at these levels can only make my insulin resistance worse, and it did. After 3 months on insulin, my level went up to 22. Giving drugs that raise insulin levels, or just insulin, is maybe not such a goo idea for us type 2 diabetics. Isn't high insulin what causes insulin resistance in the first place? Why doesn't my Endo. know this? Probably because he doesn't care, his job is to sell drugs...

Sorry Robert I just noticed I had the figures down wrong. I meant 0.46 vs range of 0.36 -1.16.

I'm not too clued up on the insulin level that you mentioned but if your C pep was higher than the range then that suggests insulin resistence. I.e you're producing more and more to cope with your glucose levels because the insulin you're naturally making is not doing it's job properly, so the glucose is rising I guess that the no. 22 you mention is a finger prick glucose test?

Hopefully an experience T2 will be able to shed some further light on your situation but thanks for replying to my post.
