I do not have diabetes
I have family history of diabetes and myself had gestational diabetes a number of years ago. So as a precaution, I have my blood glucose checked every three years.

The result of my last fasting glucose blood test, done at the clinic, was 5.8. I understand this is near the top end of the normal range. Should I be worried? Is there any way of achieving lower fasting glucose readings? And should I check my blood glucose more frequently?

Normal and diabetic blood sugar ranges
For the majority of healthy individuals, normal blood sugar levels are as follows:

  • Between 4.0 to 6.0 mmol/L (72 to 108 mg/dL) when fasting
  • Up to 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL) 2 hours after eating
Welcome to the forums. I wouldn't worry. But do monitor your situation periodically.
