Has anyone followed Dr Jason Fung's work in Toronto where he says he can reverse Type 2 diabetes in his patients by getting them to fast? I was told that Type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease. Is it considered safe to fast for any length of time?

Ok
Type 2 does not have to be a progressive disease providing you take the right steps to control it.
I am an evangelist both for Dr Fung and the Ketogenic diet which have helped me to bring my blood sugars under control after diagnosis in October 2015.
I skipped breakfast from diagnosis thus beginning intermittent fasting and have since also done extended fasts. This alongside cutting most carbohydrates out of my diet has enabled me to gain control over elevated blood sugars to the extent that I have normalised my HbA1c for the time being.
Fasting is a great aid but I would caution against extended fasting until you become a "fat burner" i.e. you have done a couple of month of very low carb eating.
There is a fasting section under the diets heading on this forum.. maybe have a read there and come back with any questions.
Hope that helps a bit.

I was impressed with the results Jason Fung has had with diabetes and weight loss. His fasting course videos are on https://www.dietdoctor.com/. I am now doing intermittent fasting at the weekend, just eating once a day. This is to accelerate the amount of visceral fat I can burn off with my LCHF diet, which hopefully will help reverse my type 2 diabetes.

Overall, I have found fasting to be surprisingly easy.

Thank you for all this information. I have learnt lots of first hand things here that are really helpful. In particular that it is best to go low carb for a while before starting intermittent fasting. I also watched videos by Sarah Hallberg that were along the same lines regarding low carb and the success she has with her patients. But this forum has helped a lot, so thank you for the pointers!
