Type of diabetes
Type 2
I am newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is doing my head in. I feel as I hve been given a death sentence. I love my food and now I'm so frustrated trying to understand what I can and can eat. I'm always tired and hve never slept so much as I have since I started taking metformin, I'm irritable, grumpy cry at the drop of a hat and tonight my daughter made me a diabetic jelly my test 2 hours after dinner was 10.6 before dinner it was 6.4. Being so tired and confused and grumpy... Is it normal and how long does it last for?

Hello and welcome to this wonderful forum. We have all been where you are right now but I promise it will get easier. Its a dreadful shock and it takes a little time to take it all it @daisy1 will be on here very soon to give you some great information. I would encourage you to read around the forum. The fantastic folk on here will answer any questions you may have and we are a supportive bunch to each other.

Being tired is a sign of high sugars.

what did you eat for dinner other than the jelly? Maybe we could give you some pointers.

also its great that you've got a meter and your testing.

I had the same problem, started to look at food labels you'd be amazed the amount of sugar in processed foods. Basically cut out sugary food, sweets, desserts, pastries, etc until you find a nice healthy balance. Have a look at what else you ate and not just the jelly, there is sugar free jelly on the market now.

Hi Lenny, I had some stew that was made with steak, onions, tomato, paprika, bay leaves, I also made some shredded cabbage with garlic and cashew nuts fried in a little bit of extra light olive oil, some papaya and lemon juice and the diabetic jelly.

Well nothing there jumps out as being terrible except maybe the papaya.
