I woke up this morning feeling nauseous only a bit so had breakfast and felt like I was going to throw up though I didn't. I then felt drunk and very unwell. I called diabetic nurse she told me to stop taking my pills (metformin) and said my blood sugar must be low and to start taking my pills tomorrow and lower the dose. I feel abandoned and worried that's all I got can some 1 pls help x
 
My non-diabetic daughter had the same symptoms last week. Eventually threw up and felt better. Her kids both vomited too so she wondered if it was a bug brought home from school. I know this doesn't help but maybe you should ask your GP if there's any bugs doing the rounds where you live.
 
Well, I'm not a doctor, but assuming your only diabetes drug is metformin, it sounds more like a virus or tummy bug to me. Missing or reducing a metformin dose isn't likely to make any immediate difference to blood sugar levels and only very minimal difference to longer term ones. It just doesn't work that way.
Do you know what your blood sugar levels are, do you have a meter, can you test? Something sweet to eat would soon raise your sugar levels, if they really are too low, but if you are a T2 on met only, something sweet is far more likely to put your levels too high.
I would just sit it out, unless, of course you feel worse, when medical help should be sought.

How long have you been told you have diabetes and any information you have might be helpful for members to know in the view to help you.
Please do not worry as there are lots of people in this Forum that have or are going through the same as you.
 
I was told by my nurse not to test my blood sugar levels as they make people anxious so she doesn't recommend it and doesn't encourage it. I've only been diagnosed about 9 months ago and my reading was very high 21.7 she says my last reading at the beginning of this month was 6.?so as Ive been taking 2-3 tabs a day and I shld now reduce it to 2. I'm sure this is not a virus in fact I'd bet on it. My nurse is a magician she just pulls whatever she guesses out of a hat lol x I still feel groggy no other symptoms sometimes I get night sweats X
 
Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you need to get a meter (you will probably have to buy one) so that you can get good control of your diabetes. Testing doesn't usually make people anxious. It empowers them
 
Hi Zand I agree with u completely and I will bring this up with my GP asap. If I don't feel any better in the next hr or so I'll go to docsX

I agree, it's probably the empowerment of patients that are causing stress in the HCPs
 
Still kept on feeling light headed and unwell x finally got doc to visit I told him my concerns about my diabetes I forgot to mention I have MS as well and he thinks this is a flare upof that x however he said that as I'm on Metformin I can't have a hypo ie my bs can't dip to low or be to high so now I'm really confused x do I need to check my bs and get a meter doc days I shouldn't b doing this and what should my reading be x I'm so glad this forum exists thank u guys for yr help x
 
When your Doctor says no need to get a meter etc; that's fine,
However there is no harm in you getting a "blood glucose meter" and using the meter as a guide to control your diabetes.
As you read how many members have chosen different diets etc; the meter helps you to know which foods do & do not work with you.
There are now great deals on BG meters.
Once you realise how important this great tool is, you will be amazed how it helps you improve your health and diabetes.

I am amazed that some Doctors are still very old fashioned regarding Diabetes. My Doctor recommended me to look at this forum,she even gave me the link. I have never looked back.
 
In my opinion the most important thing when buying a meter is to look at the cost of the test strips because you will get through a lot of these in the early days..
 
Thanx I'll bear that in mind when buying x I've had a quick look on line and I noticed the prices vary quite a bit from silly money to cheap I'm reading the reviews x it seems that's the best way to go x
