Hi, I was only diagnosed last week and not seeing the GP until tomorrow morning. I have started eating more healthily, cutting out carbs, sugar and drinking plenty of water. This weekend however I have felt terrible.. My head is pounding, last night I was sweating like mad despite the fan blowing directly at me and I have gone to the toilet 17 times in the past 24 hours. This morning my feet feel tight and tingly - is this because of the diabetes?

It's not possible to diagnose over the internet. Your symptoms could be any of a load of things. If you don't feel better, ring your GP in the morning and ask for an emergency appointment. If you feel much worse, go to A&E

I wasn't asking you to diagnose me.. I was just asking if the way I am feeling are because of the diabetes - I don't know much about diabetes, since I was only diagnosed 4 days ago.

Thank you. I don't feel unwell enough to go to a&e.. Just don't feel my normal self. I will mention it when I see the gp in the morning.

It could also be physically presenting symptoms of the mental shock of being diagnosed: it took me nearly a month to emotionally digest my diagnosis and I am still almost 3 months later intellectually digesting it. For about a week after I seemed to have a ringing in my ear and the world seemed to fall in volume! Pure shock and worry.

The loo vists can also be because you are drinking a lot of water. Is this because you feel you should be or because you have an unquenched thirst? If latter then that combined with the loo vists is a sign of severe hyperglycaemia which means you are not yet controlling your BG- in which case I would have a period of days where you drastically cut back the carbs as well as sugar before introducing carbs either at a very low level (less than 30g a day); low level (30-80g per day); medium level (80-130g per day); high medium (130-180g per day).

Thank you again. I'm drinking because I feel constantly thirsty. I do feel much better today though

I went to the see my doctor this morning and he wants me to see if I can control it by diet for 3 months before I be prescribed tablets. I am seeing the nurse tomorrow morning as he has asked, to 'get the ball rolling'.
