Feeling Down

I've been low carbing since january and have lost 2 stone, but there have been times that my weight has stayed the same for a few weeks, then suddenly drops half a stone or so. Of course it could be dodgy scales, but people here told me it was quite normal to stall for a while, so you shouldn't worry about it, just carry on doing what you're doing and you'll get there.
What are you BG levels like, are they improving?
By the way, you say you're having proper milk, how much do you have a day? It's quite high in carbs so an alternative or Arlo lactofree milk would be better

I too have been low carbing since Feb and have lost 2 stone but since end of April this has really stalled to only a few pounds in 6 weeks, despite also doing more exercise. As you say @Amanda61 it is pretty disheartening but I have to remind myself that it is all about keeping BS levels under control, which the are, rather than simply losing weight. Am thinking though that my discovery of baking using almond flour instead of conventional flour may not have been a helpful thing!

Don't forget, if you required a given number of calories to fuel your body, but then lost weight, say 5% of your mass, you now need 5% less calories to fuel your new svelte like reduced body. I think this is something that we all easily forget, you need to gradually eat a little less as you drop weight.

I'm stalled at the moment too - but I'm like rowan, I sit at the same weight for ages, then drop a physiologically implausible chunk overnight.

I think it's easier to lose weight in the beginning of any diet when it seems to fall off, and it alwasy seems to slow down after a while. And I've always found the less I have to lose the harder it is, so annoying

I re started low carbing, I'm being very strict, keeping an eye on calories too. I have not gone above 20 carbs per day, I have not lost anything. It is disheartening, however I have been a serial dieter and my weight has ranged from 9 stone up to a whopping 13 stone in two years. I will no doubt need to persevere to reap the benefits. My bgs are great so I'm happy.

I stay at a stable weight on 20-50g carbs.

To lose weight (very slowly) I need to go below 20g carbs,
AND drink water like a fish
AND walk a lot
AND get enough sleep
AND the wind has to be in the right direction
(I have hormone stuff going on as well as D)

I simply don't have the self control /dedication / lifestyle to do that consistently, so even on VLC I tend not to lose.

But that's OK. I feel so much better on VLC than at any other time during my adult life, I'm chuffed enough with that. Weight loss, when it happens, is the cherry on the top.

I see me to have stalled re my weight loss and am managing about a lb every 10 days or so however the jeans that I bought a few weeks ago are getting looser so something must still be happening! I also bought 2 pairs of trousers and one size was smaller than the other but I didn't realise until I put them on and one pair was slightly tighter than the other but I could still do them up and they fit well now and the larger size are nearly too loose

Well done Amanda, that must feel fantastic. Hope that gives you the boost to carry on with whatever you were doing, it was obviously working better than you realised!

glad you can get into your jeans again..... I bought a pair of size 12 and they a little too big for me so washed them and shoved them into the tumble dryer thinking they would shrink ...no they didn't isn't it funny when you want something to shrink it doesn't

Yes, LC is a strange journey. I am also trying to lose weight and even though the scale doesn't budge for weeks, my clothes fit looser. I will take it!

Congrats Amanda61! After losing 12 pounds, I've been in a three month stall, but I also noticed that my body continued to change. My pants are all so loose now, a belt no longer works well, so am hitting the thrift stores in search of smaller slacks for work. I'd like to lose another 25 pounds so don't want to invest in new clothes.

I signed up as a member at http://www.dietdoctor.com/ and am watching the new interviews in the member area. There's 5 brief videos with Eric Westman, M.D. He became interested in the low carb diet in the late 90's, did some of the early research on the Atkins diet, and treats patients for obesity. He talked about causes of stalls. One is carb creep, which is likely my issue. At least I know I can maintain my weight tat 50 carbs. What really surprised me is that they have their patients on 20 carbs a day. Fasting is looking more attractive...
