Feeling dreadful. Is it the Metformin ??

Hi,

Do you have a blood glucose testing meter?
If so, when are you testing? How often, and what are the results?

Also, what are you eating? And what effects do those foods have on your blood sugar.

Your symptoms could fit many things.

If your doc gave you antibiotics, they must have had a reason...?

I'd be surprised if it was the Metformin, the fact you have had antibiotics points to an infection somewhere? Can't comment on the weight gain though.

I'm afraid I can't cast any light on this except to say that, like others, I doubt it's down to the metformin: People commonly get an upset stomach from metformin - and there is a slow release version available, which often helps with this - but the other stuff doesn't sound like the effects of metformin to me. If you're diabetic, you are often more susceptible to opportunistic infections, so it could just be that you have caught something and it's proving reluctant to let go - I had this problem just before I was first diagnosed.

More positively, blurred vision is common when you're first diagnosed and is normally a good sign (believe it or not ) because changes in blood sugar levels slightly alter the shape of your eyes and a noticeable change in your vision, like this, likely means that your blood sugar levels are coming down. Your eyesight should settle again in due course.
