I've started to get low feelings even though bs is in the 5s, sometimes 6s, is it normal?

Hi There @Jonman
getting hypo symptoms with blood sugars in the 5's and 6's is usually called "false hypos"

over the past few weeks since diagnosis what have your blood sugar readings been like ?

I ask because if they have been in the range of say between 10 to 18 ( or perhaps even a bit higher )
then your body is giving you the warning of low blood sugar at a level which is not considered hypo.

as you get your readings down into range for a while ( weeks ) your body should start to warn you at the levels that are considered hypo ( 3.6- 4.3 )

hope this makes sense!
this Diabetes is a marathon race so just take things one day at a time and discuss any concerns with your diabetic nurse

They have been fine. Between 4 and 8. Pre diagnosis a month ago they had been up in there 20s, 30s. I had a big tooth out the other day and have been getting them since that.
Confused!

have you actually had a hypo reading yet ( below 4.0 ) ??

just another thought regarding meters and strips -- perhaps try a new container of strips .
does your meter require any sort of calibration ??

also - have you got a spare meter -- have you tested on both meters and got those 5's to 6's readings on both while feeling hypo ??

Yeah, had a few in the 3s. Tried on various meters

hopefully somebody else will come along with a good answer to your query because for me I am having to admit defeat-- I really am not sure why you would be getting hypo symptoms with bloods in 5's to 6's if you are keeping in range with all your readings

must be a right pain the b*m if you are feeling hypo quite often these past few days.

have you spoken with your Diabetic nurse at all ?

Could be the speed of the drop?

only other thing I can think of is contaminated blood drop (but only slightly!) make sure you wash with soap and water and rinse well and then dry properly.

Got an appointment at docs this afternoon. Thanks for your replies
