Did u test positive for antibodies? I'm on diet and Metformin which is actually working at the minute for me. But yeh I have only started feeling better the last week or so and I was diagnosed in December, I felt shattered, no energy to the point where I would fall asleep sometimes! I didn't have the craving for the carby foods but then I haven't restricted them completely, rather, I've changed all my carbs to better carbs (low GI) and less of them...I find that works better for me and at the moment I'm between 4 and 7 after all of my meals.. My morning fasting level is high though, usually about 7.6 which I'm not happy about but I guess it cud be worse. I also have had a constant dull headache until just the other week and I still have nausea now so I would say yes it could well be the diabetes...ur body will need to adjust to being at a better BG level, especially if its used to being really high...

I would go back to ur docs and ask them to repeat the blood tests...I'm booked for my repeats in June to see how many more beta cells have been murdered :-( but my consultant sed that if my levels start creeping up despite controlling my diet and taking my meds that I shud go back for the repeats ASAP incase there has been a deterioration which can be dangerous so you defo need to ask for the repeat bloods tomorrow especially if ur levels r creeping up even though ur sticking to a low carb diet. Over the last 3 months my average has went up slightly too from 6.0 to 6.4 to 6.7 so I'm worrying a little bit too but there again, I have been a little bit more relaxed with my diet so it could just be that. It's so hard this LADA because no one knows enough about it! Let us know how u get on though

My antibodies (GAD65 too) were five times what they should've been, i got a copy of the letter that went to my GP surgery that had the exact number written on so I can compare. Originally I was put on gliclazide and I was between 9 and 18 mmol no matter what I ate so I rang them and demanded to be put onto Metformin as it worked when I had GD in 2010 and my levels r much much better on Metformin. The consultant doesn't think it will work for long though and that i will need insulin soon enough :-(
I woke up to an 8.2 this morning.....not happy at all!xx

Yes defo ask for the bloods c-peptide and GAD incase they need to give you some medication help....I don't understand how the Metformin is working for LADA but it is so I might aswell stick with it, I'm on quite a low dose too so there's room to increase if needed. I think there must be a link with GD and this LADA as there's lots of people who this happens to and it gets traced back to GD. I'm worried too as I hate injections and I never ever want to hav to inject but it looks like. Won't have a choice :-(x

Do u think pregnancy would accelerate the need to inject? I don't want anymore children as I just don't think I could bear another pregnancy with this disease but my husband does want more kids.... I just know for a fact it will accelerate my condition and make me need insulin quicker...I've just got a feeling that that's what would happen :-(

Are they really bad? It wudnt be so bad injecting just once to control the fasting bloods but I just cudnt inject multiple times a day :-(

My fasting levels are usually 7.6 mmol with the odd 6.6 or 6.9 but hardly ever :-(x

WHAT IS GAD LEVEL

I have no idea what GAD level is. Any advice wod be most welcome. No one has mentioned this to me!!! N

GAD65 is an antibody that attacks and kills the beta cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. If you have these antibodies it means you more than likely have an autoimmune diabetes which will eventually lead to insulin dependence. The more antibodies you have the quicker this will happen! Hope this helps.


Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 23 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.

Have you also had blood tests done to check your thyroid function? Hypothyroidism is another autoimmune disease that is sometimes present. This can cause tiredness and headaches. I have this and take levothyroxine tablets for it.
