I still have had no contact from the elusive diabetic nurse - 4 weeks since diagnosed. Do I get my feet checked automatically via surgery? Should I make an appointment with the surgery podiatrists?

On diagnosis my GP referred me to the practice DN, but I had to book the actual appointment with the DN through the receptionist.

When I had my first appointment with the Diabetes Nurse she checked out if I could feel sensations in my feet. I think this is standard practice. They basically get you to lie down and prod parts of your feet with a slightly sharp instrument and check if you can feel it. I had no problems, so this was not checked on my second DN appointment.

"Sharp instrument" might worry some people. It is actually a nylon fibre which is designed to bend with 10g pressure. They just touch it on your feet in various places until it bends which you should be able to feel.

My DN makes the podiatrist appointments - or should I say appointment as I have only had one in the ten plus years since diagnosis.

Luckily my step niece is a podiatrist and has a look at them occasionally.
