Hi

Has anybody had sharp throbbing pains around the small toe area but on top of the foot. I was kept awake with such a sharp throbbing pain whilst lying in bed. I am now getting a pins and needle feeling in my foot when I walk or I am sat down. Has anyone had this problem or knows if it's Diabetes related. I am on my 4th week of Metformin 500g 2 tablets twice a day and 32mg of Candersartan for high blood pressure

Thanks for the reply any suggestions to stop it?
Hi Alan22,
You really should check with your doctor for circulation problems with your feet. As a Diabetic, checking for circulation to your fingers and toes as well as checking the eyes are really important....Stay healthy!!!!

@Alan22, no one can say what is causing the discomfort around you small toe and its best that you go to see your gp and get a proper diagnosis, good luck.

Hi thanks for the replies and advice. I have cut Carbs out and eat fish and chicken with mixed veg.

I have a musculoskeletal appoint in a week or so. I use to only get bit of numbness but the other night it was very painful. Hopefully I can get to see some one this Friday or Saturday

I should have been more clear. Yes, I've had sharp pains in my toes and pins and needles feeling in my feet. My first doctor said it had nothing to do with my diabetes, but when I finally saw a diabetes specialist he said that 99% of the time these symptoms are due to high blood glucose. My symptoms greatly diminished after I lowered my blood glucose levels. My diabetes nurse told me there were meds to address the symptoms, but I declined to take any.

Have you read the leaflet with the blood pressure tablets for side effects? I don't think Metformin mention such a side effect. I do get that sort of pain but in my big toe and always at night. Really painful throbbing. I did google gout and it sounded similar but if it was that I think the pain would be constant. My feet were checked over in January and all was ok so not sure what causes it.
