Finally...

Hi Dragonflye! Congrats with your new pump, sounds like you're doing pretty well already. I've had mine for three months now (can't believe it's been so long already it still feels like yesterday when I got it!). I found it quite a lot to take in in the beginning. Figured out how to do the bolus wizard easily but changing the cannulas was a bit daunting for me in the beginning

Anyway, the past three months have been a lot of trial and error; but even though the doses hadn't been set up right the difference between my BG levels were like night and day already! I am now finally getting to the point were things are stabilising and my body has gotten used to the change. I had to continually change my basal rates at first but thankfully they are now finally settling down.

All the best in the next few months, it's not going to be easy. There will be a lot of testing and trial and error to get things set up right (and no doubt a bit of frustration) but I can promise you that it's all definitely worth all the effort!

Now I can't wait to get my next HBa1C done to see how much of a difference it has made

Ahh I have a Veo too which colour did you pick? I just have a clear one but looking back I think I might have rather liked a pink one lol.

Which infusion sets do you use? I started with the Quicksets but I had a lot of problems with the tubing of them bending under my skin and not administering any insulin, a right pain! I started on the Silhouettes afterwards which look a bit more scary (they go in at an angle of 20-45 degrees so the insertion needle is a bit longer lol) but they are great for me!

I remember the first time I had to change the cannula alone I had the massive Veo manual with me following it step by step really scared I would forget something because my DSN also only explained it to me once and then when I got back to work after my appointment something went wrong with the cannula! It's really not as scary or difficult as it looks and after trying it two times it will become just a routine

It takes a bit of getting used to the first few months so don't get too discouraged if your levels are a bit unstable or if your HBa1C goes up slightly. It really will settle after 2-3 months!

Hope things will go a lot better with your nighttime hypos, they sound very scary

My pump doesn't have a wizard on the pump but it does have one on the BG meter which connects via bluetooth to the pump so it's like a remote really! :lol:

Hypos and highs are expected at the start, takes a while getting used to everything, changes, daily checks etc. It does get easier though!

I'm sure you'll find you'll be a pro at cannula changes soon! i'm pretty sure i could do mine with my eyes closed, what used to take me 10 mins now takes me about 30 seconds!

My hba1c went from 8.4% to 7.2% with only 2 months on the pump. I did have a good few hypos which i think helped get it that much lower but i'd be happy if i got the same result next time as i know it will indicate i'm more stable

Lol bet he's secretly just jealous!

About the tubing, that's a rather annoying problem indeed! I keep my pump in a sports bra that I wear over my normal bra (I don't really like the little clip that came with it personally) and I try and stick as much tubing in there as I can as well which works fairly well :lol:

think when i next go shopping im going to get some fabric so i can make a waist band for it and try and figure out incorporating a section for the tubing

it wasnt too bad yesterday because i was only outside while walking home from the hospital, and at home i dont really care my 3 year old last night kept asking me questions about it and my baby this morning tried tugging the tubing... so i think i need to think of a way to try and conceal it a little

I find that happens too, when i get changed i tuck it in my bra until i have bottoms on, and sometimes i forget then when i put it in my pocket it does seem very warm! I don't think it's warm enough to damage the insulin though.

I usually wear in in my pocket with my cannula in my tummy then tuck the tubing down my trousers. Seems to do the trick, but then again i don't have a baby!

My six year old nephew asks about my pump and the questions are so innocently cute. 'So can you have ALL the cake you want now?' with a big grin on his face bless him!

Occasionally when i forget to tuck the tubing in i catch it on door handles and cupboards, but i've only pulled it out a few times, and then usually when it's a pretty hard tug.

I'm sure once baby gets used to the pup and tubing being there it'll become part of the furniture.

Wish i was a whizz at sewing so i could make some handy pump stuff.

You could always use a little medical tape to secure the tubing once it's in a pocket or a pouch.

Think at the beginning it's trial and error depending on the way you do things! and how you sleep, etc. Very individual thing!
