Hiya all...

This is the first time I've ever seen this site and I'm glad I found it. Hopefully my 28 years of mistakes will be able to help someone on here NOT make the same ones!!!

Now for my question...

About 7 or 8 years ago I had a stinker of a hypo in the early hours and as such went into a fit, bounced out of my bed and twisted my neck. I only assume this is what happened as when I came to I was lay awkwardly on the floor next to my bed and dripping with sweat. My BM even then was 1.4 so what I must have been earlier I dread to think.

At the time I was working in a hospital pharmacy using an isolator units and eneded up taking time off. In fact I ended up taking so much time off they laid me off. Since then my neck problem developed into having a bad back and limited arm movement through pain in my shoulders and I get bad headaches almost constantly.

Now I'm on Incapacity benefit and am struggling to make ends meet, having had debts - which were payable then with a wage - but now are hard to keep up with. I've never claimed anything in my life, nor did my parents when I was younger and feel embarrassed about asking this, but could anyone out there advise me of anything I may be able to claim now as things will only get worse before they get better!

Thanks for any help provided...

All the best,

ThunderBolt!

Has your doctor refered you to a specialist or even a chiropractor?

Hi, apply for DLA definitely, if you require assistance with this long winded form contact the CAB to arrange an appointment with a benefits advisor or just email me on Alessifan@aol.com.

And yes, as Sue advised see if a chiropractor, or complmentary medicine has to offer.

All the best

Karen

As Sue & Karen have said apply for dla.
If you get the middle rate of the care component you'll probably get extra income support as you'll qualify for a disability.
If you can get help to fill the form in then do so. Go to the cab or disabled advice bureau if you have one in your area, or take Karen up on her very kind offer

I've helped my husband fill in that form! It's tricky to say the least.Finding someone to advise you would be a good thing.

Thanks for all the feedback folks... Wasn't expecting this much as it seems - or rather appears - to be a relatively small forum. None-the-less, I'm more than pleased with the response.

I'll do as suggested and look into DLA.

I was under physio for a while, but they say that I just have to wait and see now how, and if it develops. I also saw 2 specialists shortly after the event but they couldn't decide if it was more likely to be a disc problem or something else and it seems so long ago now that I can't even remember what the "something else" was!!!

Also, an extra thanks to ChocFish... I may well take you up on your offer when I get the form underway. You may live to regret making it! Heheh.

I'll let you all know how things go. Thanks again, LD!
