I got hold of my blood glucose meter today (yay!) and just psyched myself up to try it out.
2 hours since eating and it came back as 4.9 mmol/l. I'm confused. Is this good, or am I getting muddled?
It's my first ever test (since being diagnosed at 16 mmol/l 2 weeks ago). I couldn't test before dinner but perhaps I should try again in the morning.
That does sound a bit odd! What did you have to eat and did you have any exercise in that 2 hours?
Meters are not 100% accurate. All meters can be plus or minus 15% wrong, then there are user errors to consider, such as not washing and drying hands properly. If I get an unexpected reading (and I often do) I re-test to confirm it.
I don't understand your readings, but they are excellent! How could you forget the glass of wine! Yes, it may have helped.
You will get the knack of stabbing yourself and getting enough blood. It happens to me a lot. Rinse your hands in very warm water and rub them dry. Make sure your fingers are warm. If they are cold the blood won't come out easily.
Which part of your finger are you using? I find I get the best blood from the sides - I've been following the instructions in this article since diagnosis and it really works
