So, my doctor recomended that I wear a CGM so that he can see whats going on with my type 2 diabetes.
I did not feel the thing as it was fitted, and then I was told wait for an hour and it will come live. I paired it with my phone, and went off for coffee.
So what did I see in the first 24 hours?
Well first there were no glucose spikes, the max reading was 5.9, and the minimum was 3.1 mmol/l. It was the soup that took my BG high to 5.9, because I have the habit of taking my insulin after soup. So that is a change I will make. The time in range green was 49%, low orange was 38% and in the red just 13%, and it registered two lengthy low glucose events through the night.
I had read that CGM's read high or low, so initially I chose to watch and not react on the warnings. I saw that at rest the thing was reading about .08 too low, and when I moved, not exercised, it matched the finger prick blood test exactly. So I can see that it is reliable if I stand up and check in another room, and that low red readings come from sitting still reading a book, or being asleep.
So insulin, I suspect that I will need to reduce my insulin a little, fast acting and long acting. Unfortunatly the red warnings will stay because the thing records what it see's and measures while I sit. So I will still only react to hypo feelings.
So let's see what the thing shows in the next 2 weeks, I will look at the effects of different foods, to see where the readings go. I am sure my doctor will tell me how to deal with it all.
