I was diagnosed T2D in January while in hospital for an unrelated problem and left more or less on my own to deal with diet etc apart from a short conversation with their DN on the day of my discharge who said I had achieved good dietary control of my blood sugars so would not need to test in future but I should stay on Metformin.

I went for my first review with the DN at my doctors’ clinic and she was surprised how little support I had been given but anyway it was working as my HbA1c was 45, the same as the estimate given by the Libre patches and Link app I’ve been using illicitly.

She has arranged for eye tests and suggested I read diabetes.co.uk which she thinks has lots of good information .

Hello and welcome to the forum. I love your DN already!

I also like how you have been monitoring your blood glucose levels ilicitly, good man.

You have a good nurse there.

The Libre is an excellent tool to help you see what is happening 24/7 and give you the opportunity to see if you are doing anything wrong and analyse what you can do about it. Well done for being proactive and ignoring the ridiculous advice not to test.

Keep up the good work.

I’ve been using a phone to collect the readings and send them to LibreWatch. They produce really nice graphs in a web browser or as a pdf to see how things change over time. I’m really glad I ignored advice and kept monitoring my BS levels.

What makes me nervous are the physical things I can’t monitor myself like the nerves and blood supply to my foot. I say ‘foot’ since I have only one leg and it already has had major surgery to replace a blocked artery 3 years ago. The DN had problems trying to find a pulse in the foot which may be due to the plumbing done by my vascular surgeon. I wonder how much a hand-held ultrasound scanner costs?
