Following on from a finger prick test by my doctor (19.8) i have just received the result from the first HBa1c. It came back as 68.3. I have my first clinic appointment next week, presumably the DN will officially confirm that I'm diabetic and give me a care plan?. I'm currently taking Metformin 2x 500mg.

Fortunately I've had fantastic advice from members of this site, without this I would have been really anxious. Hopefully my symptoms (blurred vision) will settle down once i can get into a routine with my new diet.

Thanks for your support, it is really appreciated

Phil

Hi Phil,

Yes, your DN should confirm your diagnosis and put you on the care plan. This should be annual foot checks, annual retinal screening tests, advice about future courses such as the X-pert or Desmond, and some general information which may include things about diet. She will most likely promote the Eatwell Plate, which is completely wrong for type 2's but it's about all most of us get. She may also weigh you and measure your waist, take your BP and a few other health questions. You should have a further review and HbA1c in 3 months time to check how you are going on. She is unlikely to give you a meter or a prescription for strips, so if you haven't already, then you need to buy one yourself so you can begin to get control of this disease.

Have you had chance to read round and sort out a diet you can sustain? I assume you have been advised about carbs and how damaging they can be?
Do read round, and please come back and ask as many questions as you wish.

Thanks for that Bluetit. I've followed the advice of the majority on here and decided LCHF is the way to go. Ive not had any bread, rice, potatoes or beer since new years day. Only thing I could say I've missed is the cold beer with a curry. Red wine with the cheese board is great though!

Hi Phil, I hope your clinic appointment goes well. Did you find the Basic Information was useful to you? Hopefully your vision will improve soon now that you are following a low carb diet.
