Hi Phil,
Yes, your DN should confirm your diagnosis and put you on the care plan. This should be annual foot checks, annual retinal screening tests, advice about future courses such as the X-pert or Desmond, and some general information which may include things about diet. She will most likely promote the Eatwell Plate, which is completely wrong for type 2's but it's about all most of us get. She may also weigh you and measure your waist, take your BP and a few other health questions. You should have a further review and HbA1c in 3 months time to check how you are going on. She is unlikely to give you a meter or a prescription for strips, so if you haven't already, then you need to buy one yourself so you can begin to get control of this disease.
Have you had chance to read round and sort out a diet you can sustain? I assume you have been advised about carbs and how damaging they can be?
Do read round, and please come back and ask as many questions as you wish.
