first post. TSH??

TSH is the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone that is produced by the Pituitary Gland in the brain. If your thyroid gland is not making enough T3 and T4 your brain keeps sending the message to make more. Your test results would indicate that your thyroid is slightly underactive. If it requires treatment you will be given a tablet to take every day of Thyroxin to replace what you are not producing and stoping your brain producing too much TSH.

Have they done blood tests to check that you are not Type 1 diabetic?

My son's hypothyroidism was caused by his immune system killing off his thyroid gland so taking Thyroxin is the only choice for him. I don't know if there is anything else you can do to improve thyroid function but I'd think exercising would help the metabolism a lot. Thyroid levels can change a little and it not mean there is a thyroid problem so being 'borderline' may mean nothing. Khaleb's TSH level was 260.

The only side effect I noticed after starting Thyroxin with my son was that he had some quite erratic blood sugars for the first week or so. He also found it hard to sleep for the first few weeks but everything settled down fairly quickly.

I hadn't really noticed that there was a problem with my son but I had noticed that he hadn't really grown and was a little more tired than usual. Nothing really stood out and his thyoid levels were tested as routine screening. Another symptom is dry skin and cold hands and feet.

I have read Didi post, admired her attitude towards to the life.I hope you can visit New Zealand one day. I have the sympton of extremely head sharp pain when the plane landing (decented from high to low , although sometimes is not too painful if the captain has more considerate...) is this has any related Diabetes complication?? I like travel , this is worry me.



My stroke on the plane was caused by undiagnosed diabetes. You're on medication, so I don't think you'd be at the same risk. The pain in your head might be due to the change in air pressure as the plane descends. Lots of people have a popping feeling in their ears because of it.

I'm not a diabetic, but I do have Hypothyroidism. I take 50mg of Levothyroxine (artificial thyroxine) and it just makes me feel much better, I haven't noticed any side effects apart from heart palpitations for two days after I started taking them. I take them at bedtime as they work better while you are sleeping. They really will make you feel better!

You might want to ask if you are Type 1 Diabetic as I have read that most people with Hypothyroidism are Type 1 not Type2.

I am taking 250mg levothyroxin, but I`m still not right yet (never have been) I was beyond tired. I was sleeping up to 18 hours a day. Now I am managing on 10 hours most nights. I also gained 4 stones in weight in a year. I went from borderline to needing medication in weeks, so it is worth asking them to keep an eye on you.
