Well done for maintaining user 20 g all week. That is great.
I think that you need to give yourself a break- yes it is only food- but it effects every single meal you have. It is effecting a catch up with friends- it's not something minor. Yes there are people that have more serious conditions but diabetes is serious and the consequences of not keeping your blood sugar levels in check are serious. Eating out is a big deal.
Give yourself the credit for having a good week.
It wasn't clear to me whether you were going to a restaurant if you are maybe check their menu online.
Good luck
Diabetes is misunderstood, if you had a serious allergy there’s no way people would go “ohh come on one naughty meal won’t hurt you” but we so frequently hear that about diabetes, because serious repercussions aren’t instant. But we also need to be relaxed about it, if your sugar levels are well maintained then one meal/day/week of not hitting 20g carbs won’t kill you. Yes you can have the meat and salad and leave the burger bun, just take some plastic cutlery if needed. If your going out to have a good time with friends and munch through the bun while doing so your sugars will go up, maybe 10 maybe mid teens, so long as you don’t keep that up for the next 20 years your really won’t have a problem.
You maybe surprised, before I took control of my diabetes I used to have a weekly large takeout pizza to myself, I took the dose of insulin I was told to and my sugars would be around or above 30, since I got my numbers down and came off insulin I’ve slipped a couple of times, now the same pizza doesn’t take me above 10, yes I hang around about 8 for 5-6 hours, but I don’t spike as high, and it does come back down.
When I read threads from people struggling with type 2, I sometimes think I am lucky and can “just inject insulin” when my BG is high.
Hmm I did really good but also not so good.
Took own lunch which was my usual sausages. So 1.3 carbs I think. Friend had bit of cake and loads of goodies and god the cravings were huge. But I didn’t have anything.,
Had some pistachios through the afternoon.
The festival was good but so blooming cold.
Dinner I couldn’t face just a beef burger so I had chicken chow mein and spring rolls.
Started at 4.3 went to 9.3 so too much but very surprised by how little it affected me. Danced a bit to do that might have helped although it wasn’t overly energetic.
Typically the food was all rubbish so no choices really just chips noodles beer donuts burger and chips. A beef burger seemed so miserable.
Got home I had my usual hot choc late and friend had a chocolate cake, I didn’t.
So in some aspects I did great but obviously failed at the noodles.
However one thing I noticed I wasn’t as pooped as usual. The non swinging of sugars really helped.
Cana - If I go to things like that where I think there will be limited options, I would ensure I'd not had a burger for a while, so that the burger would be "Oh, I'll have burger", rather than, "Oh no. Not another burger".
I'd maybe have thought if there was maybe a variant on my sausages at lunch, to have something as bit different. Having discovered an ASDA Three Chillies sausage, I can hand on heart say, for me, they are delicious (and importantly, for me, low carb and gluten-free).
Getting into the swing of this whole way of living is just as much a mind as it is a physical game.
