My vaiation is to add a pinch of Xanthan gum, use a shallow dish and bake in the( halogen) oven for around 20 mins until browned .
I also change the flours around, coconut, almond and flax so it's one tbsp of each , making a total of two tbsp , depending on what is in the pantry.
Every time I've tried the microwave version I don't like the result, so I would rather wait a little longer and use the oven . It seems wasteful though to use a whole, conventional oven , and that's where the halogen oven comes in to its own
I also use the top oven in the Rayburn, but that is slower still, around 45 mins

This thread has actually helped me fall in love with flaxseed buns.
I made one with onion, black pepper and a pinch of chilli. It was great.
Then I repeated it, toasted it, and served it with warm chicken livers (sautéed in butter with onion, garlic, and herbs. I just wish I had some red wine..).
That was the best so far.
Oh, and another benefit: a regular flax bun leads to wonderful, er... regularity.
Have you read the green smoothie thread? Lots of recipes there!
