If you have doubts about any ingredients in a new recipe, the first thing to do is check online to see what the sugar/carbohydrate levels are in that particular food, then if you think they are/may be acceptable, use a glucose meter to test your reactions to it. We're all different so what is OK for one may not be OK for another.
A lot of people seem to think that anything that isn't refined white sugar doesn't count and is OK to eat, but personally although I love honey, I don't eat it. And be aware that with bees, they can be fed on ordinary sugar to replace the honey that is taken from their hives - I discovered this fact years ago that when sugar was rationed, beekeepers were actually given a
sugar ration for their bees. So sugar is sugar is sugar...
