Food (or is it drink) for thought

My dietician said Fridj was a good drink, yes it taste lovely but the sugar level is so high.

Was told not to drink them by the Diabetese nurse ...is there no low sugar fruit juice drinks?

Fruit juice is generally concentrated fruit, so by definition is likely to be full of sugar. Unfortunately!

Depends what the smoothie is made from; if fruit it's going to be fairly high in sugar though I think if you add some avocado and/or protein powder this will help balance it out.

Trop50 is a lower carb fruit juice.
I have this on a weekend breakfast only , and it now tastes very sweet.

I use to drink a lot of fruit juice, and when I switched I noticed the difference.

Used to love orange juice not had it in such a long time..better to leave alone is my motto

Unfortunately the very process of making a smoothie tends to destroy the natural dietary fibre in the fruit that slows down the digestion process of the fructose in the fruit. Thats what makes them taste so good. The downside is that a smoothie has higher GI load than just the fruit, and will lead to higher and faster bgl spikes.

Warning: Inocent smoothies are now marketed by the Coca Cola company. We no longer know what gets put into them. A serving of Innocent smoothie has (typically) 43.3g carbs, and 36.5g of sugar. There is apparently very little else in it. some salt, some fibre, a tiny amount of protein, and no trace minerals or vitamins listed,

The Daily mail gave an analysis of an innocent smoothie that apparently shows it has 30% more sugar per 100 ml serving than standard coke.

Thankyou for this info. I think in future if I have a meal deal in the supermarket I'll stick with the diet cola
