Hi
I forgot to inject my insulin this morning. Am on 18 units of humalog25 mix x 2 daily dosage. It was lunch time before I realised and checked my BS and it was 14. If this happens again should I take a lunch time dose of what should have been the morning one or decrease the units, or miss it completely and take it at my evening meal.
This hasnt happened before so am a bit in the dark, looked on the insulin instructions but it doesnt say what action to take.
Not sure about this one as I don't use humalog 25 mix, but had you posted late morning I would have suggested you take half your usual dose for lunch and continue with your evening dose as normal, however as I am writing this at 2.27pm, I would be inclined to miss the morning dose now and wait until this evening.
Hi Nigel and thanks for your reply. I was at the gym when I suddenly realised I hadnt taken my insulin so it was a bit late for me. I think it was fortunate that my BS was 14 when I tested it which wasnt tooooo bad and I just had an egg salad for lunch with no carbs and we are eating at 4.30 today so not so long for me to wait and as you say, if this happens again I will know what to do.
Polly, it might be worthwhile for you to ask yr consultant or gp to prescribe you a fast acting bolus insulin in a pen (not Humalog though as you'll get mixed up ) and you can use that as a rescue plan incase you find yourself faced with forgetting again.
I would imagine that yr bg level by 4pm will be up a bit more so eat only a tiny bit of carb so that the 18 units get yr bg down ok. Remember to keep testing, test, test and eat to your meter.
