Hi @CrankyKat - I'm pretty certain I know the answer, as a T2, I'd be daft to advise you on insulin, so I'll tag @himtoo whom I believe is online at the moment. I'll also tag @urbanracer , for good measure.
In the meantime, it could be worth clarifying how long you're away from home?
I usually take my Tresiba before bed and didn't take it with me for an unexpected sleepover 2 weeks ago. Took it about 14 hours late, didn't notice any difference in bg readings.
I took the missed dose as soon as I got home, stayed with that time for a couple of days and took another 3 days to delay the timing until back to before bed. No bigger fluctuations than I usually have, and I have pretty tight control.
Sleep well!
I'm afraid I don't know much about Tresiba as I use Abasaglar.
But if I forgot my long acting and only had rapid acting with me, I assume I'd have to test more frequently and take small doses of rapid acting as required.
You are likely to have a rising BG until you can get your basal.
May be an idea to test and correct with your bolus every few hours. This probably means setting an alarm during the night.
@urbanracer and @helensaramay, Tresiba is different from all other long acting insulins in that it works about 48 hours, although you take it every day. Even the leaflet says you're fine as long as you make sure there's 8 hours between dosing after missing a dose, so it's very flexible in timing. Unlike skipping a dose with other insulins, with Tresiba there probably won't be any problem or need to correct with bolus insulin
Thanks for the help guys. I’m so silly, usually I’m so organised but got up late today so I was in a mega rush. I will contact my pharmacy tomorrow and see if they can fast track some emergency stock for tomorrow morning. Xx
Might be worth keeping a Tresiba pen and a few needles at your dad’s so if it happens again you’ve got the kit you need? I keep a set of spares in my mum’s fridge, just in case I forget anything.
