Freestyle libre newbie

If you want to share the data with your consultant it would be worth using diasend - you can create a free account and upload the data from your Freestyle Libre reader. I usually put the sensors on 24 hours in advance but others don't and seem to get on OK with them.

you should have a usb connector for your libre reader -- if not ring abbott and they will send you one.

your DSN will have an account with Diasend so can link into your details
( talk to your DSN on exchanging information )

I'm trying the libre out myself but using the app on my phone. From what I've read you can use both your reader and the app on your phone provided you register it with the newly applied sensor within the hour.

You can email, whatsapp your graphs etc from your phone, i tried it just for fun.

Be wary of the readings from your libre as they can be way out from your finger pricking.

An excellent tool though.

Diasend is great. The only problem I had with it was it did not recognise the Libre until I stopped the 'Libre Service' on my Windows 10 computer. So I just need to keep on stopping and starting the service depending on what I want to do. Only a minor inconvenience.

We put on a new sensor 12 hours in advance...so for 12 hours my daughter has 2 sensors on. Works quite well for us.

Just ordered the starter pack myself. Why do you let your daughter where 2 at once (at all, and for such a long time?)

Just re read the manual and there isnt anything mentioned there about having the sensor on 12 hrs before the previous one expires although i seem to remember someone saying that that's what they do in another post. All the manual states is its ready to go in 60 minutes and in the app it counts that time down.

You can see from the attached picture that the accuracy is not as good on day 1 so to mitigate that a little, we place the sensor on the arm 12 hours before activating it. It gives it a little time to settle in the body and for the body to get used to it. This is just what we have found works best as the next day is a school day so want to have a good accuracy. This is not recommended on any official literature but many people on the Libre Facebook group also use a similar approach.

Another tip is GrifGrips. These are the best item we have used to get the sensor to stay on for the full 14 days. It works through swimming, sports + all the other things a 5 year old gets up to. It is actually quite difficult to peel them off after 14 days.

My concern would be that although Diasend is great for giving you monthly summaries and tracking overall progress it doesn't give great insight into communicating your day to day issues and response actions. For day to day issues, I think it is better to print out one of the Libre PC weekly reports with the daily graphs and simply annotate on that any specific problems you may have had and the actions you took to remediate. Logging your bolus/carbs info into the reader is also useful for both the weekly and monthly reports and again gives you more information to support any questions you have for the doctor.
