Hi everyone!

I am considering to buy a FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system. Could you please tell me whether it is possible to change the units from mmols to mg?. I have also heard that no VAT payable if it is purchased by or for people with diabetes. Is that true?

true about the VAT but not sure about changing the measuring unit
 
You can only get Libre in the units of the country in which it is being purchased. You are unable to switch them.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste your time getting one. BG levels are unreliable and cannot account for you safely monitoring your glucose levels, let alone driving a vehicle.

Although the tech is excellent, it's very primitive.

Was that your experience Grant? Huge numbers have had a very different and very positive one. The biggest value being in the trends and what your levels are doing rather than accuracy of point in time tests. I'll put up a poll on here later, but FB and Twitter polls are suggesting that huge numbers of people using it have reduced Hba1Cs dramatically as a result of the ability to understand what happens after eating and when to time insulin.
 
After a couple of days my sensors tend to be very accurate. For example, today, woke up and the Libre said 4.1 and my Accu Chek said 4.4. Before driving to work the Libre said 6.5 and my Accu Check 6.9. I've found similar results most days.

Sometimes they can be more divergent if there has been a lot of change in levels in a short amount of time such as during exercise.

I have had to send one of my sensors back to Abbot (1 in 10) because even after a few days it was still way out (think 2.2 vs 7.3!) but Abbott were very good about this and it's been a while now since I've had a dud.

As Tim says, they're invaluable for looking at trends and patterns. I've just done my HbA1c at work and it's dropped from my usual 6.2% to 5.8% in the space of 4 months using the Libre

Could you include T2s as separate categories, Tim?
I think the way T1s and T2s go into the Libre is with quite different mindsets and expectations, so lumping them together may muddy the water a bit.

there is just a tick box you click on that says " I am diabetic and claim exemption from VAT "

You make a declaration, by ticking a box, on the order form for your diabetic status. The declarations carry the usual wordings about fibbing and so on, so the onus is upon you to tell the truth.
 
Hey!

I got mine in Germany and I'm almost sure they sell both units here, because we have both cases in my diabetes group -I'm using mg. But I just checked and my Libre only has the options of German, French and Dutch. Maybe it will be better if you get in touch with the company directly, and ask
