hey

has anyone ever been successful in getting the libre on NHS? this is without it being funded in the area. it doesn’t fund it in my town but i hoping to still get funded

Yes, I have it on prescription in South Wales for three months with the target of reducing my HbA1c by 2.5 (under the old system, 27 under the new) to keep it long term.

No I have contacted my CCG and they have issued guidance that libre sensors should not be prescribed by Primary Care -

hope you don’t mind me asking but how long did this take for you to get? and also did you have to have certain guidelines or criteria to get this offered to you?

I was prescribed it my my consultant before Christmas but due to delays in my GP issuing the script (it wasn’t on the system) and the pharmacy actually getting some (problems with the courier from Abbott) I didn’t actually get any until 11th January.

They seem to be using standard CCG guidelines, I’ve got it on a three month trial during which I need to be able to reduce my HbA1c by 2.5 under the old system - it was 10.8% so I need to get it under 8.3%. If I can do that (and I went for the bloods to be taken today) they said I can have it long term. Appointment next Monday, so fingers crossed. The Libre software suggests it is down to 5.4% but I’m not assuming anything!

Other criteria were for those who test over 8 times a day, or who have lost hypo awareness. Can’t remember the others.

thank you so much

My gp said he would prescribe the sensors if I bought the reader so I did and he has. I am living in Southend-on-Sea Essex and I hear that there is a post code lottery about availability over the country. I am not sure about the criteria applied but my gp is sympathetic to my looking after my wife at home who has sever dementia so maybe that had an effect.

Yes i have been given it in cardiff south wales with no guide lines or rules
