Hello,
I've been reading on this forum about the freestyle libre and noticed lots of people saying they were waiting for an email from the company for months in regards to getting one.
However, I'm slightly confused as I just tried ordering one from their website and was able to - so I'm just wondering what the email people are waiting for actually says? Also, the website says the starter pack is unavailable but you can buy the reader and sensor separately. I've included a photo of the website.

Did you get through to actually buying one though?

I just tried (have been trying for about a year now(!)) and again got the usual slap in the face message saying "Thank you for your interest" and no chance of getting to a payment page.

Not exactly pleased with Abbott.

I'm a french woman also waiting for the FreeStyle Libre, with a complex T1D (some genetic extras...).
Now pregnant, I need between 15-25 measures a day and I would REALLY have some help NOW with it... I'm sad it will be too late when it becomes available again...
Does anyone know WHY it is taking so long ?
They can build huge industries to build millions of computers or cars, but nobody gives a **** about T1Ds.

Not really, no. T1Ds constitute less than 0.5% of the population, so we aren't very lucrative and certainly aren't a mass market!

Well I don't get it. It's not because we're not a mass market that they cannot make profit with it... it's just a matter of investment and price adjustment. It's not because of its price that I want it, it's because I NEED it

I would even be ok to rent it during 8 months and send it back afterwards...

I'm also looking into a Dexcom G5 but it feels harder to get one (the french contact for dexcom is unresponsive).
Someone is selling a G5 on amazon at 1300$ but it feels like a scam... plus I wouldn't know how to get supplies for it.
 
I believe (although this is solely based on hearsay) that the crux of the problem is that Abbott have started selling to the German health system, and so have a vested interest to supply the demand on that side as the priority, to existing private customers as a secondary priority, and new customers as a third and final priority.

G4 is available in France from DINNO SANTE. Why not ? In my opinion the only advantage of G5 is smartphone instead of dedicated receiver ; it seems sensors are the same and G5 transmitter lasts 3 months as it is at least 6 months for G4.

Do you need a letter from a doctor to buy the G4 in France?

Although I am from the uk I have family in the south west of France and was considering getting one from there as they seem to be about 20% cheaper in France.
 
No you don't. It's written on their internet site you need a letter from a doctor but when you call them they tell you it's not mandatory. I bought recently a full set without any letter.

To order you need to ask for a quotation they send you by mail. Then you sign the quotation, make a bank transfer on their bank account and send back by mail the signed quotation and bank transfer advice.

Thank you, yes I did read their website about the letter.

Would like to try the abbott libre first as it is the cheaper option, but do not know how long I am prepared to wait.
 
I have been waiting for a mail from Abott after I joined the waiting list in early September, and no news from them now. I'm considering Dexcom more interesting due to alarm capabilities on low or high glucose level. I understand it's not possible on freestyle.
If we consider G4 sensor may work during 2 or 3 weeks and transmitter lasts around 1 year I'm not sure dexcom is much more expensive than Freestyle Libre

I've just received an email from Abbott today to say I can purchase the libre in the next couple of weeks. Can't remember exactly when I applied but think it was early 2015.

We're sticking with the G4 however. My wife is pregnant too and we've found it invaluable to be honest. She's lost her hypo awareness during the pregnancy so the alarms really help.
 
If you're sticking with the G4 then couldn't you forward the email onto someone else who needs it? Presumably you can change settings to a different email address once signed up!?
