I've been following low carb for four months and happy that my results are usually within NICE recommendations- however today I has cauliflower rice and curry - low carb and bloods went up to 14.3. I've had three pears today are they to blame? I've already given up on apples which had a similar high - is fruit really likely to spike me this much?
When did you eat the pears?
When did you eat the curry?
And what time was the spike you measured?
Spikes from fruit tend to happen quickly - if they are eaten on their own. Within an hour or so.
Whereas spikes from a meal like a curry (especially if it has protein and fat in it) may not happen until approx 2-4 hours after eating.
Plus the fact that all our digestive systems work to slightly different timetables!
Yes pears are likely to be the culprit. My DN told me about one of her patients who ate 2 pears every night before bed thinking that would be healthy and OK for his BGs. His next HbA1c showed this not to be the case.

Yes it does thanks - done a bit of reading on fruit today and remembered I also had a couple of tangerines - mindless eating really - another lesson learned

Fruit will contain fruit sugar. You did eat three pears!! I believe that in terms of fruit pears have a relatively low GI but maybe in your case not low enough.
Since being diagnosed, I try to avoid fruit completely. If you want vit c - eat red peppers, chillis and tomatoes! Chilli is great for fat burning too. Red peppers help my asthma and tomatoes - at least 2-3 times a day - to protect me against the family illness - colon cancer.
However, when my time is up and I'm ready to go, I will have a big bowl of oranges and grape fruits and go out with a bang!

You may find that if you eat fruit as part of a meal rather than a snack then it will not spike so much. The overall G.I. will be lower.
Try slicing a pear and adding a dollop of cream to it as a dessert.
