I can tell from my weekly testing if I have just had an apple or orange
As I'm sure you already know, sugar raises your blood glucose levels, and fruit contains a very high level of sugar in the form of fructose. It also contains many vitamins, minerals and fibre so is good for you - but in small doses.
I'm intrigued - you say you are diet controlled but only test once a week. So how do you know whether your blood glucose levels are controlled?
I would personally prefer a bit more frequent than this, but its a personal choice so ok if you feel happy with the advice. Do you feel, from the testing you are doing, that you have good control?
When I was first diagnosed and diet controlled I tested four times a day, before breakfast and before evening meal, and two hours after each of those meals. That gave me some indication of how my sugars fluctuated and what the overall levels were. I kept this up for the first month in order to see a pattern, then dropped it to twice a day, then once every other day - just to keep an eye on things. Not that any of this did me much good because the advice I was given was to eat a high carbohydrate diet, which of course I followed because "doctor knows best". I couldn't understand why my levels were showing no improvement and after 5 months I was on tablets!
As long as you have a better understanding than I had at that time of carbohydrates and the effect they have on you, then you should be ok.
