Tomorrow it'll be 2 weeks since diagnosis. ( Metformin 2x500 rising to 4x500 over the next month.)
I haven't had more that 20g of carbs a day for the last two weeks. Most of the time a lot less than that. - I'm used to eating low carb as I've been doing it off and on for years, - haven't been able to tolerate gluten for a while anyway.
My problem is this.

My day time BG readings, before meals and 2hrs after are ok- ish, - 6's and 7's before and not rising above 8 at most after. But I can't get my morning pre breakfast reading down below 8.7. - this morning it was 9.5 and I was especially careful not to eat too much protein yesterday too! Exercise sends it up to the high nines and I've been going really easy there too.

Any one got any ideas how I can bring my readings down?? - I'm losing weight quite quickly - 12lbs in 2 weeks, so I don't think I'm eating too much???

:/

I'm a 'newbie' too so the only advice I can say is give it time... I cut out all sugar for the first 6 weeks of diagnosis, then went down to about 120g carbs for about four weeks, then went to 75g for about two weeks and in the last two weeks or so went down to 50g... And it's only in the last two weeks or so that I've got my fasting glucose and post dinner blood sugars into the non-diabetic range, despite the fact I added in exercise and dramatically reduced my sugar intake for about three months up till then... They did lower steadily over the course of that time, but it definitely took time and patience! The good thing is you're losing weight: during the whole three months experimenting I've only just started losing weight the last week or so... Which I can assure you isn't very motivating ;-)
Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll start to see the changes in time

PS are you eating high fat, medium protein, low carb? That's the combo that suddenly seemed to make things 'click' for me... And I started off with fasting glucose of 12, then it dropped to around 8, and only since adding in more fat and less protein and carbs has it gone down to 5.5's...

Thanks SK, I'll try to up my fat intake. I do cook things in butter, but I'll try to find hiding places for more.

Fasting BS is higher again today.
