Frustrated

Good luck with your scan Emma, it's a nerve wracking time!

Thanks for your positive CS tale Eily. In an ideal world I wouldn't choose to have one, but I really don't have a choice! Like you said, having a delivery date now is a bonus - fingers crossed all goes to plan!

Congratulations! I an type one and have been for 24 years. I am 33 weeks pregnant and they haven't discussed much with me, all I know is I will have another growth scan at 36 weeks and that's when they will decide on when I will give birth. I'm hoping to make it to the 38 week mark. I did ask my consultant if I could have a csection and he had asked me if I was too posh to push! Haha! I found it quite funny, he did say that 70% of diabetics end up having csections. I've decided to go with the flow now. As this is my first pregnancy, I don't want to get my hopes on a particular delivery and be disappointed. The docs know best and will do what's best for you and baby. X

Hey!

I'm now 36+6 and birth plan was done just this week, with induction date set for 38+1.
At my hospital (in london) they wanted to wait till the 36 week scan to decide on dates and other details. Although induction round week 38 was on the cards right from the start, so was aiming for 'natural birth' - tho they did give heads up regards increased chance of c-delivery.
I bet having more complications will affect the plan they do and make it more specific (mine feels pretty vague - only proper concrete bits are regards the pump, which I was quite insistent on), but as others have said, guess the aim always is to go as close to full term as possible and so they just have to wait and see how it goes before deciding on anything.

i also have advanced prof retinopathy in both eyes and have had laser previous to getting pregnant and once during pregnancy (all looked ok till last check up at 32 weeks, and then there were new vessels and so got a -relatively quick- session of laser). I asked the eye consultant if this would affect the delivery, apparently not... Which I felt curious about having read so much about retinopathy leading to selective c-section, so I checked with the endo doc and she confirmed that the eye docs there never seemed to suggest specific delivery methods... Ho hum.

This goes bit off topic but have been trying to get my head round hypnobirthing (silly name IMO) , where one of the ideas is not so much about pushing but breathing the baby out... And hence avoiding the purple faced aaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh stuff - which surely would be better for the eyes! Shall see how it works, am sure trying to keep calm is a good thing, never mind the methods used to achieve it.
Best of luck to all!

Xx

Hello.

Just thought I would update you, I had my beautiful healthy baby boy at 37+5 which was 2 weeks ago. I went to doctors for a check up on the Tuesday and was booked in for an induction the next day due to hypoing a lot. Leon was born with no health problems and a good weight of 7lb15oz.
If anybody would like to ask any questions I would be quite happy to answer any. I hope your pregnancies are going smoothly

Congratulations! I love his name.

I hope the hypos are a thing of the past.

Thank you. I still have a few but I think that's me getting used to injecting pre-pregnancy doses. Will get my head round it soon I'm sure x

Congratulations !!!!

Congratulations. Enjoy every minute-because one day you will wake up and wonder where all the years have gone!!!

Congratulations! Did you have to have a C-section? How were his bloods when he was born? A few people have told me babies bloods can be low when born? xxx

No, I was induced. I was close to having a csection but they used forceps and he was born. When he was first born I think his first reading was 2.7 but the tests after that were just above 3 which the midwives were happy with. I'm from the uk and they tested his bloods for 24 hours but if his bloods dropped below 3 they would start the 24 hours again. Luckily his were fine. X

Thanks Sam - always reassuring to hear of a positive experience seems that all docs ever tell you about are the risks and complications! xxx

Big congratulations @samtov . Just wondering about the hypos - did you have a drastic drop in insulin requirements towards the end or was it more gradual...? Heard a lot about watching out for lows as it might indicate issues with the placenta, but then some seem to be saying it is normal for there to be a drop...
Were they going to induce you anyway and moved it forward because of the hypos or was the plan to let things go naturally? Xx

Thank you
Erm I would of said it was more gradual, I had hypos so I reduced my insulin and it wasn't making much difference. So the doctor said we should start think about delivery now rather then later, the doctor did mention about the drops and my placenta was still working fine as I had a scan to check it. So I think the decision was made as a prevention at the time as the doctors said my hypos could get worse if I was left longer. Doctors always told me that I would be induced 2-3 weeks earlier but I was hoping to make it to 38 weeks. Missed it by a few days.
X
