General Questions on being Diabetic.

Hello All,

I have a few quick questions for you all.

1, On diagnosis my HBa1C was 6.6%, how diabetic is that?

2, At 6.6%, how much damage would I have already done to my body and how repairable would it be?

3, My current HBa1C is now 6.3%, how much damage is that level doing to my body.

I am currently (as always) trying to get my HBa1C down further, as we all are.

Was diagnosed at type 2, was put on to pills for Diabetics, blood Pressure and Satins – I have never taken any of them.

As my cholesterol is slowly coming down with diet changes, my BP has never been high and don’t want to take pills for diabetes.

As always, all view are well come.

Cheers

Hi simply_h and welcome to the forum. Some members will be along soon who can answer your specific questions on your HbA1c from their own experience but basically NICE guidelines state that HbA1c levels should be below 7.5, and on this forum we agree that these levels should be lower than that. 6.3 is already good. Personally, mine is 5.5. It is also important to test before and 2 hours after meals to see what effect each food has on your levels. That way you can decide what you can eat, and which foods you have to either reduce portions or cut them out completely. I think this information for new members will be useful to you. Ask as many questions as you like as there will be someone who will be able to advise you.
