Test is a better diagnosis than the current options (C peptide ) so might stop adult onset type 1s being given pills when they need insulin and the reverse for type 2s. The piece speculates that the test is 2 years away.
Personally I have classic type 1 (acute syumptoms at age 10) but it might be useful for my kids to know if I've given them the duff gene variants.
Would you want to know if you were likely to develop type 1 given there is no proven way to prevent it?
Both myself and my youngest daughter were diagnosed within 5 days of each other. My eldest was offered genetic testing and she said she didn't want to know. She basically said what will be, will be. Nothing will change it. I think she's very wise.
