Glucorx meter

This is the meter my area uses. They won't give one to me because I'm only on metformin. I'm going to go straight to buy my own rather than expend energy arguing with them.

So, my questions are:

1. What are people's experiences with this meter?
2. Should I get this one (potential they will eventually supply strips etc...) or are there others that are better or more user friendly?
3. I think I read somewhere on here that meters need calibrating and if I had same as surgery I could get them to do it. Have I understood that right?

Why are you choosing the same meter as used in your area? (presumably by your surgery?)

There are much cheaper ones out there...

The meter commonly recommended on the forum is the SD Codefree, because it is cheaper to run than almost all the others. There are comparison reports available online that show the SD Codefree is of standard accuracy.

Whatever you choose, please do check around on price before you make the final decision. Regular testing over the months and years to come can work out quite pricey, if you are paying for it yourself, and are using something that costs something like £25 for 50 tests. (I test multiple times a day, because I eat to my meter.)

Edited to add: just googled GlucoRX strips, and they looked like about £12 for 50 - so not too bad.
But I think the SD Codefree ones are about £7 for 50.

I suppose I am just advising you to shop around...

Hi Letsy, have you heard about Diabetes.co.uk Type2Testing programme? By signing up to this you can get some great savings on the GlucoRx blood glucose monitoring products.
Alternatively, if you don't want to sign up to the scheme we do supply our meters free of charge. If you would like to order one please contact the GlucoRx customer care team on 01483 755133 or orders@glucorx.co.uk.

We recommend doing a calibration test with every new pot of test strips. This calibration fluid is provided free of charge, so if you contact GlucoRx this can be sent out and a member of the customer care team will be able to talk you through this test so you can get the hang of it. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in contact.
