glucose levels and cold sores?

The last couple of days, all of my BG readings (fasting and postprandial) have reliably been up by between 1.0 and 1.5 - after a long period of relative stability.

Over that same timeframe, I've developed a nasty cold sore on my upper lip (treating with Zovirax cream) - first time for some years and first time since diagnosis.

Are BG levels so sensitive that they will go up purely for that? No other changes in diet or exercise.

Well, it must have been the cold sore or some other transient problem, last 6 readings over 2 days back down to normal again.

The 7th, last night before bed was very strange, down to 3.5 which is unusual for me (so much so that I repeated it) - bear in mind that I only take 2 x 250mg of Met per day. I felt fine at that time, but 15 mins later I felt very strange; sweats, fuzzy feeling in head, dizzy and sort of spaced out.

I lay down for 5 mins and it went completely away by itself. I'm assuming that this must have been one of those very rare hypos on Metformin only. I do occasionally dip below 4, but never have any symptoms or feel odd.

Morning and lunch readings today normal again, back in the mid 4's.

Not sure, I first developed a cold sore over 15 years ago.

I get them now every 2, maybe 3 years or so, usually when I'm feeling down - or in the winter or perhaps both. Usually triggered by me breaking the skin while shaving, and being a bit clumsy near the upper lip.

Zovirax, if used early enough, knocks them on the head very effectively and they only itrtitate me for a day or two, compared to earier times where they made me feel pretty miserable for a week or more.
