I recently changed from the SD COodefree due to some variety in reading to the Tee2 meter from Spirit Healthcare
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product-category/shop/tee2/
The strips are £7.75 for 50 which is at the cheaper end of the spectrum. For me the meter gives readings that are aligned with my most recent HbA1c levels so seems pretty ok.
If you call and order by phone I think you might get the meter free so could be worth the cost of the call..
The one I used to use with cheaper strips was this one

The strips are a bit cheaper but... seems for me to be less accurate so I gave up on it.
My apologies I didn't see that you are pre diabetic. Type 1 here.I have no idea about the prices but I would definitely recommend Accu Chek meters. I think the strips are on the more expensive end but you will get accurate results. I am considering having 2 meters; I currently use Accu Chek Performa and I am considering On Call Plus meter for general testing (when I am not going to inject insulin). I would reserve the Performa strips for pre meal readings where accurate reading is important to get the insulin dose right. Maybe you should consider this option or consider a Libre.

Hi @bulkbiker
Hi @TrendyD
If I order this:
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/tee2-plus-blood-glucose-meter/
Do I need anything else to go with it? Or does it include all I need to go?
You will need strips, a lancing device and lancets.Do I need anything else to go with it? Or does it include all I need to go?

I think you get the strips and lancets with it but you don't get many just enough to start you off . I got my meter for free but I'm type 2 , not sure if pre diabetics get free but its worth asking them you can call them they are really nice customer services .
I use this meter and very happy with it .

I think mine with the last batch of strips I bought was reading high all the time and with odd spikes too. I just finished a 3 meter parallel test with the Codefree, the Tee2 and another one that Home Health asked me to trial for them (a glucose and ketone meter called the Wellion Leonardo). The readings over 3 weeks were ....So just how inaccurate was your Codefree ? Was it + or - 10%, 20% ? Or was it just regularly reading high ?... or low ?
I'm curious, because I'm using a Codefree.
So would need to order test strips and lancets aswell as the main machine? Tee 2 that is.
Thanks. I will do that. How’s the meter testing going? Piece of cake?Yes but I would definitely telephone and order it then they will ensure you get everything you need! Make sure you order the extra strips and lancets as the machine only comes with a 10 of each.
I don't like the lancets provided, I'm a bit squeamish about drawing blood, and the lancets look like instruments of torture to me.If I order this:
