go sick when starting pump?

Morning carlos When I first started on a pump I was advised to take a weeks holiday. As was no longer working I did not have to do that. I did however plan a quiet week. The main reason for this was to get the basal rate on the pump correct. I got daily phonecalls and there were lots of adjustments to the basal rate especially in the first week. I had a review appt one week after I started on the pump.That was some time ago, not sure if they still do it the same way.

When I started pumping, long before closed loop, I spent the morning up the hospital then went straight back to work, manual work, working with horses. We have so much more technology now than we did back then so I see no reason why you would need time off work. At some point you will have to go to work with your pump so why put it off a day. Your basals have to be set ( or set itself, depending on pump ) around your usual days work.
Just go for it and good luck, you will have teething problems but its worth it!

There is no reason for you to go off sick just because you now have an insulin pump. The hospital team would have been satisfied that you are competent in managing your Type1. A pump is just an other piece of technology to make your life easier, like the Libre or Dexcom sensors you have already got used to.

Even if you cannot remember everything you learned, you would have been given a manual where you can look up things in the evening. If you are unsure, just contact your team.

However, pumps do sometime malfunction. Therefore, your hospital Diabetes Team would have reminded you to carry insulin pens with you at all times, as a back-up.
