Hello there, my names Luke, im 24 and from Newbury, Berkshire. I have been a type 1 diabetic since I was 10 and like to think I have been faily controlled over this time. However the last few years my hba1c has been far too inconsistent. I feel as though the level of care I have received has been far from good so before things get too late I have joined here to get as much information as possible.
I am currently on humalog mix25 46/26 and this is ok...not great.
I am looking at changing to the 4 a day basul bolus system and would like to know how others have dealt with it and how managable it has been?

Thanks for your time everyone!!
Cheers

Hi Luke and welcome to the forum I expect you will get some answers from Type 1s soon. Here is some general information that we give to new members and I hope some of this advice will be useful to you in stabilising your HbA1c's. Ask as many questions as you like as we all want to help where we can.

Welcome to the forum, Luke.

My own transition from premix to basal/bolus was quite some time ago, but I vaguely remember it being quite smooth. For me, basal/bolus was a significant improvement over premix.

Hi Luke and welcome!

Much like Tony I switched over some time ago and found the whole experience went well, the downside is you have to inject more and will have to test your bg more frequently but this is outweighed by the flexibility of injecting insulin to match your food..... meaning you can choose how many carbs to eat at each meal-time or skip a meal altogether.

Hopefully when you do change over your care team will be more supportive and guide you through the process, once you've been on MDI for around 3-6 months you can enroll on a carb-counting course such as DAFNE (dose adjustment for normal eating) which will help improve your everyday control and banish your inconsistency to the past.

Best wishes!
